Bahrain and Uzbekistan: New Concepts in Football Training
Thursday, April 30th, 2009
If the description applied to two new videos is true, then the national sides of Bahrain and Uzbekistan have gone to entertainingly extreme lengths to prepare for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
One depicts an improvised version of penalty practise in which a Bahrain goalkeeper is asked to protect a 4×4 with blacked-out windows from close-range shots by his team-mates. The task inspires him to some stunning saves.
The other shows an Uzbekistan team sharpening their shooting. When one player misses, he is forced to make his head the target and is promptly struck flush on the face. Regardless of their authenticity, both drills would enliven most clubs’ training.
