Berba-God

I’ve found a decent quality video of the highlights of Man United’s 8-2 destruction of
Hangzhou Greentown in the Asia cup. As well as United’s free flowing attacking, Hangzhou’s inept defending, and Ryan Gigg’s immense finishing, the performance of Dimitar Berbatov was the most jaw-dropping aspect of the game. Watch the video below to see his laconic flicks, tricks, and skills, and marvel at his footballing ability. If football was played at walking pace, Beratov would be the finest player to ever take to a pitch.

Champions League Fallout

Where next for United? After their defeat to Barcelona, there is a definite feeling that they have been revealed as flat track bullies who fell short against the very best. What does Alex Ferguson need to do to elevate them above Barcelona’s ethereal level?

Poor Darren Fletcher

So, Man Utd are through to a second successive Champions League final. But poor Darren Fletcher will not be there after a refereeing error saw him receive a red card for what was an excellent tackle on Cesc Fabregas.

How the referee did not see the deviation of the ball after Fletcher’s intervention only he will know.

But what is perhaps more criminal than the inept refereeing is UEFA’s lack of an appeal process. No matter how horrendous the error, no referee can have his decision changed (other than in a case of mistaken identity). This reeks of arrogance – a refusal to admit that their officials are fallible.

After an excellent tackle that should have prevented a goalscoring opportunity turned into a red card and a converted penalty, Darren Fletcher will beg to differ.

He now misses the biggest game of his life, totally and entirely unjustly. The referee, and UEFA, should be ashamed.

Macheeeedddddaaaaaaaa!

‘Kiko’ Macheda, Manchester United’s 17 year old Italian wonderkid, scored a sensational 93rd minute winner against Aston VIlla to reignite United’s title challenge. All the headlines are about him this morning (which must annoy Yossi Benayoun a little) – but if you’re anything like us you won’t know anything about him. So here is Macheda in focus…

It’s Up for Grabs Now!

Recently we have asked; Can Anyone Stop United? Can United Really Win the Quintruple? And then, in the wake of Liverpool’s 4-1 destruction of United at Old Trafford: Is the Title Race back on? We can safely say, on the back of United’s defeat to Fulham where for the first time in recent memory they self destructed (with Scholes and Rooney both dismissed), that the answer to all of those questions is ‘yes’…

Is the Title Race back on?

After Liverpool’s sensational 4-1 destruction of Man United at Old Trafford, is the Title Race back on? The table, and the bookies, still say no – United are 1/10, and remain 4 points clear of Liverpool and Chelsea with a game in hand. Certainly, they are strong favourites; but a win against the red half of Merseyside would have really put it to bed, whereas now both Chelsea and Liverpool will feel they’re in with a sniff. Let’s have a look at what United would need to do to let one of them in…

The Old Ones are the Best Ones. By Andrew Walker

At the time of writing, Manchester United are three-fifths of the way towards the unprecedented ‘quintuple’. So it is no surprise to see that United players now make up the bookies’ top four favourites for Footballer of the Year.

Can United really win the Quintruple?

Two down, five to go… on Sudnay Man Utd defeated Spurs 4-1 on penalties, after 120 minutes of goalless football, to win the Carling Cup. In addition to the World Club Cup they won earlier in the season, that sets them up for an unprecedented quintruple of World Club Cup, Carling Cup, FA Cup, Premiership, [...]

Man Utd break Clean Sheet Record

Last night’s 5-0 win over West Brom saw Man Utd keep an incredible 11th consecutive Premier League clean sheet. This broke Chelsea’s record of 10 – and also took their number of minutes without conceding to 1031, eclipsing the previous 1025 minutes in the 84th minute at the Hawthorns. Utd, as they always seem to [...]
