Is it Arsenal’s Year?

We’ve already half stuck our neck out and predicted Arsenal will be there or thereabouts this season. After their opening day performance – and indeed that of their rivals – its tempting to go balls out on them. Of course it’s far too early to draw conclusions, but 6/1 won’t be around much longer…

The Rumour Mill whirrs into Action… by Gareth Freeman

The rumour mill is beginning to get into the swing now we’re nearing the summer transfer window and yet again Gareth Barry is being linked with a move to Liverpool, with Xabi Alonso emerging as a target for probable Real Madrid president Florentino Perez. It would seem as if Benitez will have to let Alonso go to fund a move for Barry… but is it a worthwhile swap?

It’s Up for Grabs Now!

Recently we have asked; Can Anyone Stop United? Can United Really Win the Quintruple? And then, in the wake of Liverpool’s 4-1 destruction of United at Old Trafford: Is the Title Race back on? We can safely say, on the back of United’s defeat to Fulham where for the first time in recent memory they self destructed (with Scholes and Rooney both dismissed), that the answer to all of those questions is ‘yes’…

Rafa Benitez – Only 48!

That was the most surprising thing I took from Benitez finally signing a long term agreement at Anfield. 48? I would have put him at mid-fifties. He has now signed a deal until 2014, which is a strong commitment to the club against the background of boardroom turmoil. This seems to have gone down well with Liverpool fans and non-Liverpool fans alike…

Is the Title Race back on?

After Liverpool’s sensational 4-1 destruction of Man United at Old Trafford, is the Title Race back on? The table, and the bookies, still say no – United are 1/10, and remain 4 points clear of Liverpool and Chelsea with a game in hand. Certainly, they are strong favourites; but a win against the red half of Merseyside would have really put it to bed, whereas now both Chelsea and Liverpool will feel they’re in with a sniff. Let’s have a look at what United would need to do to let one of them in…

Everton 1-0 Liverpool – ITV the real losers

Everton won a turgid third Merseyside derby in 16 days last night, with a late, late Dan Gosling goal putting them through just as it looked to go to penalties. Apparently. I say apparently because I, along with millions of other disgruntled – nay apoplectic – viewers missed the goal due to ITV’s amateur, avaricious [...]

The Merseyside Derby: Footballsup Gripes 1 and 2

Football is amazing – but it does have its flaws. Two of them were highlighted in last night’s Merseyside derby, where Everton snatched a 1-1 draw and denied Liverpool the chance to go top.

Arsenal 1 – 1 Liverpool

An absorbing, high tempo game ended honours even this afternoon, Arsenal and Liverpool battling out a one all draw at the Emirates. Despite the lack of clear cut chances, it was a fascinating, absorbing game, and there were two high quality goals first from Robin Van Persie, and then from the under-pressure Robbie Keane. A red card in the second half didn’t help Arsenal’s cause. Read the full report here…
