If the description applied to two new videos is true, then the national sides of Bahrain and Uzbekistan have gone to entertainingly extreme lengths to prepare for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
One depicts an improvised version of penalty practise in which a Bahrain goalkeeper is asked to protect a 4×4 with blacked-out windows from close-range shots by his team-mates. The task inspires him to some stunning saves.
The other shows an Uzbekistan team sharpening their shooting. When one player misses, he is forced to make his head the target and is promptly struck flush on the face. Regardless of their authenticity, both drills would enliven most clubs’ training.

Arsenal’s new little magician has been a revelation since signing in the closing minutes of the January transfer window. He’s played only 9 games yet has 6 assists and 6 goals – and against Liverpool became only the sixth player in Premier League history to score 4 in one game. Had he been here all season he would have pushed Ryan Giggs all the way…

I know we’ve all probably seen it, but this gif highlights the true horror of the tackle. Palacios avoiding a sending off was nearly as outrageous as United’s penalty…

For those of you not familiar with the Guardian’s excellent football podcast, I urge you to give it a try – you can listen online here, or subscribe via iTunes here.
It’s hosted by James Richardson (of late 90s Football Italia fame – the bald bloke) who is excellent, who has regular guests including Barry Glendenning and various members of the Guardian football staff.
They have reports from abroad, and take a more sideways look at the footballing world. If I did a football podcast (which I won’t), I would want it to be like this.
Give it a try.

The real, fat, Ronaldo (or the really fat Ronaldo) is now playing for Corinthians in Brazil. He scored two vintage goals at the weekend – one with an exemplerary touch, one with an exemplerary finish.
He’s still got it. Remind yourself what ‘it’ is here.

In the wake of Ryan Giggs being crowned football of the year, we revisit our initial article on the subject – when Giggs was available at a juicy 8/1. We thought it would be a vote for sentiment rather than a true reflection of the season’s form; but deserved for his incredible record. Most now seem to agree with us…

Apologies for the lack of any Fantasy picks for the weekend just gone… to all of you sitting atop of your mini-leagues after following our advice through the season I can only offer my sincerest ‘sorry’. Fortunate, really, that there isn’t anyone in that category. Let us attempt redemption by pointing you the way of the excellent Fantasy Football Scout.

Stop it now. It’s boring. Of course it’s really sad, tragic, etc etc – but that’s quite enough. It was 20 yeas ago, stop wallowing in your own self pity. Although it was nice to see the Everton fans drape flags against United – unfortunately the scabby mancs drowned out their songs of support.

Alex Ferguson has waded into the ongoing debate about the quality of the surface at Wembley, allegedly removing Scholes, Berbatov and Evra from the starting eleven after seeing it cut up during Arsenal’s defeat to Chelsea (after which Arsene Wenger also complained about the laughable turf). This is not the first time it has come under the spotlight, either – remember England’s 3-2 defeat to Croatia on a soggy peat-bog?
