Robinho has made a fantastic start to his Man City career, scoring 8 goals in his first 11 matches, including a delightful chip over Manuel Almunia on Saturday.
It is often said that players need a time to acclimatise to English football, particularly Brazilians (more failures than successes…) and the fact Robinho has made such an instant impact speaks volumes for his ability.
Even at £32.5m, he must be considered good value. Chelsea must be cursing – although still top, on goal difference, they have dropped points in six of their last ten home games. As the Newcastle game illustrated, Chelsea do struggle to break down teams who pack men behind the ball – Robinho would be the perfect antidote for that, able to provide the spark or genius that Chelsea’s current front men – Anelka, Drogba, Kalou – just don’t possess.
The one criticism of Robinho so far is that all but one of his goals have come at Eastlands – if he can add away goals to his repetoire, the success stroy will be complete.
