Midweek Mayhem

A veritable bonanza of midweek Premiership action as all 20 teams took to the field. Newcastle struggled to a win on Tuesday as discussed, but last night’s action was far more entertaining.

Top of the bill was a fantastic 4-4 at the Emirates between Arsenal and Spurs. Game of the season without question – and goal of the season so far. Its worth watching the full MOTD highlights of this one if you haven’t done so – you can get them here. If you can’t fit it all in – just make sure you watch David Bentley’s fantastic strike.

There were wins for the rest of the Big 4 – Utd coasted to victory with two Ronaldo goals (ominous…), Chelsea were as comfortable as can be against Hull, winning 3-0 including a sublime goal from Frank Lampard. Liverpool again battled to victory, sneaking a narrow 1-0 win against Portsmouth with a Gerrard penalty.

Elsewhere, Rory Delap’s long throw provided another Stoke goal as they beat Sunderland, and a Marouane Fellaini header in the very last minute gave Everton victory at the Reebok. Villa’s fine form continued, with a 3-2 win against Blackburn (more comfortable than the scoreline suggests), and in an early season basement battle Fulham beat Wigan 2-0 at home. Finally, a much needed Boro victory – 2-0 over an infuriatingly inconsistent Manchester City.
